Being raised in a Christian home, my parents had our family at church every time the doors were open. This had me involved in regular Sunday School classes, Children's choir, worship services and more. This was the foundation that was set for me to realize at the age of eight years old I needed a personal relationship with my Savior. At sixteen years old the Lord called me to surrender to preach and be in full time ministry.

Through the Lord's leadership I attended Blue Ridge Bible Institute of Valdese, North Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity in 2001. Following graduation I continued to serve in my local church in various ministries which led to being an associate pastor of Community Baptist Church in Slidell, La. Through this time the Lord laid on my heart to start a Bible Believing Church in Picayune, MS.

In May of 2007, Heritage Baptist Church held its first services in a small rental store front in downtown Picayune. After out-growing several rental facilities the Lord began working for Heritage to have its own place. In December of 2014, the church purchased fifteen acres and began building. In October 2017, the Lord blessed us with a completed and debt-free church home.

Our Faith

The Doctrine of the Scriptures

We believe "all scripture is given by inspiration of God", consisting of sixty-six books of the Old Testament & New Testament (rejecting the Apocrypha). (II Timothy 3:16, II Peter 1:21; 3:2)

We believe that the doctrine of inspiration is inseparable from the doctrine of preservation of scripture, God’s “words”. (Psalm 12:6-7, Proverbs 22:21, Matthew 4:4, I Thessalonians 2:13, II Timothy 3:16, John 17:8, Revelation 22:18-19, John 6:63) Knowing that no living individual holds nor has ever seen the original autographs, the Bible therefore is available to mankind today.

We believe that God has preserved His holy words (“scripture”) for the saints today in the King James Bible (Authorized Version). We believe every word therein is inerrant and infallible and needs NO correction.

We believe the King James Bible is superior to all other versions and translations, which are corruptions of the true words of God. (II Corinthians 2:17)

We believe that the King James Version should be the final authority in all matters of faith and practice, and is above any opinions of mankind, traditions, or any other source. (Mark 7:9-13, I Thessalonians 2:13, II Timothy 3:16-17)

The Doctrine of God

The Doctrine of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully and completely God (John 1:1, Isaiah 9:6), He is the second Person of the Godhead (Trinity), and not a lesser Deity (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19, Philippians 2:6, Colossians 2:9), was virgin born (Matthew 1:23, John 1:14), the only begotten Son of God and was completely man, and completely God (John 4:9, Hebrews 4:15, Colossians 2:9), He gave Himself willingly in death upon the Cross, and is the only ransom for sin (Philippians 2:7, John 10:11, I Peter 1:18, I Timothy 2:6, Romans 5:10). Jesus Christ himself alone bore the penalty of God’s wrath, and that He was buried and rose again from the dead upon the third day as the scriptures foretold. His resurrection and glorified body was a physical body of flesh and bone (I John 2:2, John 1:29, I Timothy 2:6, Luke 24:46, I Corinthians 15:4, Matthew 27:57-60, Matthew 28, Luke 24:36-43, John 20:25-28). Jesus Christ upon ascending into Heaven upon the finished work of redemption is now seated at the right hand of God. He is our High Priest, Intercessor, and Advocate. (Luke 4:51, Revelation 1:18, Hebrews 5:1-10, 9:24, I John 2:1, Romans 8:34, Colossians 3:1, Hebrews 7:25)

The Doctrine of the Holy Ghost

We believe that the Holy Ghost is the third person of the Godhead (Trinity) and fully God (Matthew 3:16-17,19, I John 5:7), When one trusts Christ as Savior, and becomes a son of God (John 1:12) the Holy Ghost Regenerates (John 3:3-5, Titus 3:5), Fills the believer (Luke 1:15, Ephesians 5:18), Empowers the believer for service (Acts 1:8, Romans 15:13), Teaches the truths of scripture (Luke 12:12, I Corinthians 2:13), Guides (John 16:13, Romans 8:14), and Intercedes for saints (Romans 8:26,27).

We believe that the Holy Ghost imparts spiritual gifts (I Corinthians 12:7-10, Ephesians 4:4-8) to every believer; we reject the modern day Charismatic movement which places overemphasis on the person and work of the Holy Ghost. There are clearly gifts that were given in time past that the Lord does not now disperse to the saints in this dispensation, the carnal and demonic origin of the modern Charismatic movement is unscriptural. (John 16:13, 15:26, I Corinthians 1:22, 14:22)

The Doctrine of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred spiritual and physical death. We believe that without exception all men are sinners and have need of the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:26; Genesis 2:7; Romans 5:12-18; I Corinthians). We believe man’s direct and sole purpose in creation was and is to bring Glory to God, thus it is for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11).

We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, inexcusable taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. (Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1,5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44.)

We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman, and thus we reject upon the basis of scripture the attempt to redefine marriage as anything other than the union of one man and one woman. (Genesis 2:24; Romans 7:1-3; I Corinthians 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23)

The Doctrine of Salvation

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, and is our substitution for sin, and that salvation can ONLY be obtained through Jesus Christ (John 3:16, Hebrews 5:9, 9:22, 10:10-12). We believe that salvation is by grace ALONE, and completely apart from any works, deeds, sacraments, church membership, baptism, etc. (Ephesians 2:8-9). Upon salvation of the soul, the child of God is assured of eternal life that cannot be lost. (Romans 8:16-17, 39-39, Romans 6:23).

We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free to all and that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own voluntary rejection of the Gospel. (John 3:19; John 5:40; Romans 16:25, 26).

The Doctrine of Separation and Sanctification

We believe the believer should be separated from the world while being present in the world; that he should abstain from all appearances of evil as a testimony to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; and any other departure from the written principles of the word of God (I Corinthians 10:20; I Thessalonians 5:22; II Timothy 2:15-18; II Timothy 4:1-3; Titus 1:9-11; Titus 2:10-15.)

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity should be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, pedophilia, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. (Genesis 2:24; 19:5; 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-32; I Corinthians 5: 1; 6:9; I Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4.)

The Doctrine of the Church

We believe that the New Testament Church began at Pentecost (Acts 2:4-5,47) into which all true believers are placed immediately by the Holy Spirit upon salvation (I Corinthians 12:12,13, Ephesians 4:5). The local church is to fulfill its duty and carry out the duty of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) until Christ returns, and the “perfecting of the saints and edifying of the body” (Ephesians 4:12).

We believe there are only two scriptural offices of the local church: 1) Bishop, and 2) Deacon. (I Timothy 3:1-2, Titus 1:7, Acts 6:3-5, Philippians 1:1, I Timothy 3:8)

We believe that the scriptures teach to observe two ordinances of the church: 1) baptism, and 2) the Lord’s Supper.

Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. It is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, in which baptism is a prerequisite for membership in the local church congregation. (Matthew 3:13-16, 28:19-20, John 3:23, Acts 8:36-39, Romans 6:3-5, Colossians 2:12, Acts 2:41)

The Lord’s Supper is the remembrance of the death of the Lord Jesus Christ by the partaking of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine. It is always to be preceded by self-examination on the part of the participant. The Lord’s Supper and baptism are not sacraments, and neither bestows any form of ‘saving’ grace on the child of God. (Matthew 26:17, 26-29, Mark 14:1, Luke 22:15-20, I Corinthians 11:23-29)

The Doctrine of Music

We believe that music speaks either to the Spirit, to the Soul, or to the Body (flesh). Music is not neutral, it has the capability of communicating imbalance and sensuality, it can confuse the spiritual effectiveness of the message. Music is a tool, that should be used to minister to the soul and spirit of the child of God, bringing Glory to our Lord Jesus Christ and draws us to worship Christ (I Corinthians 2:11, Matthew 16:26, 26:38, Romans 8:13, Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:18-19, Hebrews 2:12, Revelation 4:11).

The Doctrine of Giving

We believe that every Christian, as a steward, is obligated to support his local church financially. We believe that God has established the tithe as a basis for giving, but that, every Christian should also give other offerings sacrificially and cheerfully to the support of the Church, the relief of those in need, and the spread of the Gospel. (Genesis 14:20; Proverbs 3:9-10; Acts 4:34-37; I Corinthians 16:2; II Corinthians 9:6-7; Galatians 6:6; Ephesians 4:28; I Timothy 5:17-18; I John 3:17)

The Doctrine of Missions

The Doctrine of the Last Things

We believe that at death the soul of the child of God immediately goes to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven. In Heaven they will abide in joyful fellowship with Jesus Christ until the pre-tribulation rapture. At the rapture, the bodies of the saints shall be raised from the graves and changed into a resurrected body in the likeness of Jesus Christ. (II Corinthians 5:8, Philippians 1:21-23, I Corinthians 15:35-38, Titus 2:13, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, I Corinthians 15:51-53, Philippians 3:20-21, I John 3:2)

We believe that the souls of unsaved at death, descend immediately into Hell where they are kept under torment till the final day of judgement at the Great White Throne Judgement. At which time their bodies will be brought from the grave, and they will be judged according to the works, and cast into the lake of fire for everlasting punishment with the devil and his angels. (Luke 16:19-31, II Peter 2:9, Mark 9:43-48, Jude 13, Revelation 20:11-15)

We believe in the imminent, bodily return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, at which time He will rapture His church out of the earth. We believe that immediately following will be the seven year Tribulation period, after which, the Lord will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom, which was promised to the nation of Israel (Psa. 89:3-4; Dan. 2:31-45; Zech. 14:4-11; 1 Thess. 1:10; 11 Thess. 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Rev. 3:10; 19:11-26; 20:1-6).

Salvation

The Bible Way to Heaven:

1. Recognize your condition

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

None of us is good enough to go to Heaven on our own merit. Because we are sinners, no matter how much good we do, we always fall short.

2. Realize the penalty for sin.

For the wages of sin is death… (Romans 6:23a)

Just as there are wages for good, there is punishment for wrong. The penalty for our sin is eternal death in a place called Hell.

3. Believe Christ died for you.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Christ showed His great love for us when He died on the cross to pay our sin debt.

4. Trust Christ alone as your Saviour.

…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)

Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to those who call upon Him by faith.
